This is a beautiful porcelain coffee can and matching saucer by the Derby factory, made during the late Georgian period of the early years of the 19th Century
The cylindrical can tapers slightly to the base and has a "Grecian " handle.
The decoration is exquisite, both pieces having a salmon coloured ground with circular panels having superbly hand enamelled bunches of pink roses, together with profuse hand gilded (gold) enamelling to the body and the outer handle.
The hand painted roses are attributed to JOHN STANESBY who excelled at painting roses and was an exhibitor at the Royal Academy. Very similar pieces are illustrated in John Twitchett's book on Derby Porcelain, colour plate 59, page 107. Both gilder and painter numbers ( 9 and 69) are seen in red & puce on the foot rim.
Internal Ref: P 1819
