1900 - 1920
For Sale by Deco Interiors
Description

Made from solid silver and glass, this antique hip flask has smooth rounded edges and a crocodile skin cover with a central window. The conker brown crocodile skin has no tears and the seams are tight. Surrounding the bottom half of the flask is a solid silver cover which slips on and off, making all parts easily washable. The lid is hinged and turns to fit the catch on the inside for security. The whole piece is usable with no issues, and given its age is in very good condition, despite minor surface scratches due to general wear.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver hip flasks evolved during the 18th and 19th centuries among the gentry for field sports and travel. By the Edwardian era, silver makers produced refined vessels featuring fitted leather covers, bayonet caps, and removable base cups for personal convenience.

These flasks were typically made with a glass body or silver shell enclosed in textured leather, such as crocodile or pigskin. Sterling silver mounts, hinged bayonet caps with cork seals, and removable silver drinking cups completed the assembly.

Authentic British pieces carry hallmark stamps indicating silver purity, the assay office location, the year letter, and the makers initials. For example, a Sheffield hallmark from 1909 features a crown, a sterling lion passant, a specific date letter, and maker initials.

An antique silver flask functions as a tactile accent when displayed on a wooden office desk, integrated into a styled tray on a bar cart, or positioned alongside antique leather-bound books on bookshelves.

Clean silver components using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid contact with the leather. Preserve the leather sleeve by applying a tiny amount of leather conditioner and keeping the piece away from direct water immersion.
