Fine Staffordshire Figure of Farmer & His Boy

Description

This very well modelled and detailed VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE FIGURE dates from circa 1860.

It shows an exceptionally well-dressed Farmer holding a sickle over his shoulder with his other arm around a young boy who cradles a tiny bird in his hand.

The Farmer is standing in a patch of maize (sweetcorn) which he is, presumably, about to cut.

There is a lot of detail to this Figure and it is one of the best of its kind.

It stands a stately 14.25 inches (36 cm) high.

The condition is good. There is a small surface chip to the underside of the footrim at the back. There is no restoration.
