Woven by the Lakai people of Uzbekistan, this charming little textile conveys huge spiritual and cultural significance. The simple ornamentation and warm natural dyes make wonderful decoration. Note the survival of the tassels. This piece from the late 19th century has survived in wonderful condition and would make an eye-catching addition to any decorative scheme. Highly desired by collectors of Uzbek art. These types of work are unique to the peoples of Central Asia.

Uzbek embroidered amulets, historically known as tumarch or tribal talismans, originated in Central Asia during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Crafted primarily by nomadic and settled Uzbek and Lakai needleworkers, these small decorative textiles were created to bring good fortune, ward off evil spirits, and adorn domestic yurt or home interiors.

Traditional Central Asian embroideries feature hand-spun silk threads worked onto a background fabric of woven cotton or wool.
