Description
This chunky, yet charming little vanity-bag - 'chanteh' in Persian - has a thick, lustrous woollen knotted-pile face incorporating a type of 'cross' in the centre with ivory highlights in cotton. The back is in narrow horizontal bands of plain-weave, beautifully edged in yellow and red brocade. There is something very tactile when handling this chanteh, particularly feeling the beautiful vegetable colours and glossy wool. Made by Bakhtiari nomads in the Kiasy region of the Chahar Mahal in western Persia circa 1900, the bag is in excellent, complete condition. Size: 25cm x 28cm (10" x 11"). Viewing by appointment only. Internal Ref: BM1781
