Description

A impressive large set of metal beam balance scales produced by De Grave & Co. London. (Please check the sizes as these scales are much bigger than they look on the photographs). The scales have brass pans suspended on chains. The scales were a very important part of commerce in the early 20th century, and this is reflected by the number of excise marks that have been stamped on them when they underwent checks for accuracy. The excise marks span the reigns four monarchs from the last years of Queen Victoria through to George VI. These scales are very well made and of great historical interest & are of museum quality. They would make a great addition to the home or a wonderful display piece in an upmarket retail setting, & they still work! All that history for £595
