Description

Fine quality little late 19th.c. sectretaire bureau bookcase c.1880. Useful small size, just 35" wide. Glazed bookcase top fitted with two adjustable shelves and with two small lockable drawers below. Over a secretaire bureau base, the drawer front folding open to form a leather top writing desk with two small stationery drawers inside. Two door cupboard below, fitted with a single adjustable shelf. Symmetrically arranged rosewood veneers across the piece with parquetry inlaid borders to the sides. Exceptional quality inlaid marquetry panels to the cupboard doors with lifelike floral detail in contrasting woods. Fluted faux columns to the front edges with original gilded ormolu mounts top and bottom. Gilded ormolu roundels to the corners of the doors, note also the gilded lockplate to the secretaire drawer decorated with Classical cherubs at play. Superior quality with bevelled glass, solid mahogany drawer linings, oak groundwork to the sides and oak back panels. Excellent condition, some minor repairs to the veneers, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
