Adjustable Brass Standard Lamp C.1890

Description

Unusual adjustable brass standard lamp c.1890. Converted from an oil lamp stand, with a single bulb on a hinged arm to be used as a reading lamp over a chair. Alternatively the arm can be locked into a more normal vertical position, the bulb being mounted on a gimble with heavy counterweights to keep it upright in both positions. The lamp is also telescopic, making it height adjustable from 69" – 80". Raised on a reeded column and elaborately moulded plinth heavily weighted with iron for stability.
