Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late seventeenth century, writing bureaus evolved from slope-front writing boxes placed on top of tables. They developed into standalone integrated furniture pieces combining lower storage drawers with a slanted drop-down writing flap.

Traditional bureaus are constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied over secondary woods such as pine or oak. Decorative hardware usually consists of cast brass escutcheons, drop handles, or swan-neck pulls.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, original brass locks, and evidence of wear on the internal writing stays. The interior fitted pigeonholes often display characteristic period construction techniques.

A writing bureau works as a compact work station in living rooms, hallways, or alcoves where space is limited. Closing the slant front instantly conceals office items, maintaining a clean aesthetic within contemporary schemes.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly. Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and veneer fading.
