Description
Fine and rare George III silver gilt rectangular table snuff box with painted panel. The snuff box of slender rectangular form with a beautifully formed banded shell & anthemions chased boarder around the outside. The hinged lid decorated with a scrolling boarder and inset painted panel with figures reading a scroll within a low lit room. The base with an intricate engine-turned matching shell like pattern. To the inside a presentation inscription reads " Presented to Tho's Heather Jun Esq. 10 February 1830 as a token of gratitude for the kind services rendered by his father to Mr John Vanman of Portsea and left in remembrance of him to his brother Alfred. October 30th 1841. The box hallmarked in multiple places for Alexander J Strachan, London 1807. Measurements | 2.2cm High x 9.7cm Wide x 7.6cm Deep Condition | Very Good, two marks to the front painting right of the figures & a small loss to the edge of the painting from wear.
