Description
Fine Japanese meiji period closionne enamel vase. The vase of tapering form with a pinched neck and splayed rim. Decorated with a black base glaze with a tint of purple and a fine blossoming flower below a flying butterfly with silver inlay. The base fitted with a signed silver tablet for Namikawa Yasuyuki. Notes | Namikawa Yasuyuki is widely regarded as the undisputed leader of cloisonne enamels during the golden age of Japanese enamels. His intricate detailing, outstanding patterns are widely recognised with or without his trademark silver tablet signature and his flawless work went on to win him prizes at 51 exhibitions between 1875 and 1915. In 1896 Namikawa was appointed an Imperial Household Artist. Often Namikawa's work is miniature in size with a good portion of his works measuring less than 20cm High. Condition | Fair-Good, small impact to the shoulder of the vase with two hairline cracks leading up to the rim. Small indent to foot rim.
