Japanese Silver & Enamel Koro - Hiratsuka Mohei

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fascinating Meiji Period 1868-1912, silver and enamel koro ( incense burner ), though apparently unsigned  the most unusual form and fine quality of this particular Koro closely resembles the work of an artist called Hiratsuka Mohei, the large silver filigree vessel of compressed hexagonal form is painstakingly decorated with multi coloured cloisonne enamel silver wired chrysanthemum to the main body, as well as to the shaped and flared feet and lappets around the neck. The central filigree body further decorated  with larger gilt wire cloisonne flowers. The artist has formed the handles as fine quality silver gilt enameled Dragonfish rising upon hand planished silver roundels, and finally he has chosen a superb quality mixed metal cockerel upon chrysanthemum as the finial to the pierced lid, the interior fitted with a silver hexagonal shaped liner, a quite intriguing and painstakingly complex vessel that wo...
