Rotherham & Sons silver half hunter pocket watch, 1902.

 

The watch has a stem-winding movement, identified as being by the Coventry watch maker Rotherham & Sons.  The movement is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, Aldred & Sons of Great Yarmouth.  Originally there would have been an inner cover but this has been removed over the years.

 

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop.  The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the covers for Birmingham 1902, with a punch mark for Rotherham & Sons (John Rotherham).

 

The front of the case is in good condition.  A central lens surrounded by dark blue enamel filled Roman numerals.  The back of the watch has three little dimples, and a few light marks to the sides of the case, but overall the condition is good for such an early piece.

 

The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. 

 

Inside, there a glass lens which is in good condition.

 

The dial has the number 7262 which ties up with one of the numbers on the movement.  The dial has unusual ornate hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.  There are some short hairlines by number 1 but they are faint and not immediately noticeable to the naked eye. 

 

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
