Gilded Overmantle Mirror C.1880

19th century
Description

Decorative late 19th.c French overmantle mirror c.1880. Original 18½" by 25? mirror plate within a carved and gilded solid wood frame. Topped with a tall pierced frieze featuring a classical urn and laurel wreath flanked with grapes and vine leaves. Laurel leaf garlands to the top corners of the frame, further carved detail to the bottom corners and raised on the original long stiles. Original gilding, a little chipped and worn in places, and some minor wear to the mirror. Generally very good original condition.
