Large Hukin and Heath Silver Plated Serving Tray C.1890

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A magnificent and rarely found large example of a decorative Hukin and Heath serving tray with their famous design resembling the inside of a citrus fruit.

Standing on four small feet, the tray has a stunning decorative border and two grand handles. The underside is fully marked by the well renowned Silversmith's Hukin and Heath.

Silver plated and the design attributed to Dr Christopher Dresser dating to the late Victorian era, c.1885.

Just back from our silversmith's workshop where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it's former glory.

Spanning 23 1/2" handle to handle x 15 1/2" x 1 1/2".

Established in Birmingham in 1855 by Jonathan Wilson Hukin and John Thomas Heath, the firm of Hukin & Heath were manufacturing silversmiths and electroplaters. They registered their first hallmark at the Birmingham Assay Office in 1879, followed by their first London mark in 1879. Hukin retired in 1881, but his partner - John Heath - continued the business with a third party, John Middleton. The firm is probably best known for its association with the hugely influential designer Christopher Dresser, and produced his designs between 1879 and the turn of the 20th century.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
