Description

An impressive Lancashire mahogany moon phase longcase clock. A fine quality case with choice flame mahogany veneers and inlays. Reeded hood columns and trunk side columns with a gothic arch door. A swan neck hood pediment with distinctive Lancashire case pediment. A crossbanded trunk panel standing on ogee bracket feet. A brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels and a well engraved dial centre. A seconds and date dial. Lunar moon phases to the arch with country painted scenes. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1785.

James Booth of Machester is recorded in Loomes' 'Lancashire Clocks and Clockmakers' book as working in 1782. The Booth family of clockmakers are noted as making quality clocks.
