An Edwardian Revolving Bookcase By Maples & Co. Of London & Paris

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Culvertons

A fine example of a mahogany revolving bookcase by Maples & Co, one of the leading manufacturers from the Edwardian Period (1901 - 1910). This bookcase has been well designed and expertly constructed - it''s robust yet decorative four- legged base (still supported by its original porcelain wheeled castors) and cast iron under-tier enables it to be easily spun around whilst it''s shelves are full of heavy books. The mahogany has been skilfully decorated with satinwood and boxwood inlay to evoke the fashionable designs of the Late 18th Century or ''Age of Elegance'' - many Edwardian interiors were decorated in this manner. Now sensitively restored this revolving bookcase is ready to be used and enjoyed.
