18th Century Barrel-back Armchair & Stool

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Walton House Antiques

George III 18th century period mahogany barrel-back armchair and foot stool.

The ''barrel-back'' shaped seat is upholstered in a green and gold damask and the pattern has been retained through the large flutes that make up the barrel shape back. The shaped wings that flank the sides of the armchair sit above outward scrolling arms and the chair has a feather and down upholstered cushion. The mahogany legs to the rear are swept away from the square tapered legs to the front. The chair retains its original brass castors and has a George III mahogany upholstered stool that accompanies it.

NB The chair is rather impressive in size but incredibly comfortable and we believe this chair to be quite rare.

The chair and the stool are companions and are to be sold together as they were made around the same time. The price includes both pieces. We do have images of the frame pre-upholstering.
