Antique niello cased Omega pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, identified as by Omega, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has the early Omega logo to the inside. There are light surface scratches to this inner cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is niello ware. Niello is a black mixture, usually of sulphur, copper, silver, and lead, used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal. It is added as a powder or paste, then fired until it melts or at least softens, and flows or is pushed into the engraved lines in the metal. The white metal is silver and there is a small Continental hallmark next to the movement opening.

There is some niello loss to the hinged case back but still a very handsome piece.

The inside of the case has a date scratched into it along with the name of a previous owner.

The glass lens has light surface marking but very acceptable.

The signed dial is in its original finish and it has an attractive textured finish to the centre. Blued steel hands (the minute hand is very slightly misshapen), a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
