Superb Oak Longcase Clock by William Berry Gateshead C1810

19th century
Description

A superb Georgian oak longcase clock c1810

~~ Fully restored and serviced ~~

This is a fabulous longcase clock made by William Berry of Gateshead dated to around 1810.

The case is made of quarter sawn english oak and flame mahogany with beautiful figuring which has mellowed over the centuries into a warm colour, the grain and patina is just superb.

The case is decorated with satinwood stringing and mahogany crosbanding, this theme is carried on through the trunk, door and base which also has fine mahogany crossbanding.

The case is enhanced with satin wood stringing to the canted corners and reeded pillars to the hood. It also has a fully working lock and key.

The glass in the hood is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks.

The clock dial is of polished solid brass with decorative corner spandrels and roman numeral chapter ring, of course it is fully marked William Berry Gateshead.

It has a superb 8 day movement with working seconds. The clock strikes the hours on a large bell and is keeping good time.

The clock is in full working order and has just been serviced by Alan Williams of Plymouth clocks who is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute so it should give many years of trouble free service.

The clock movement comes with a full 12 month warranty, full setting up instructions and telephone help if required.

If you require further information please telephone Andrew and Lynn Wilson of Fowey River Antiques, Cornwall on 01726 813155 daytime and evenings. Please be aware this clock is also available for sale in our shop and subsequently may be withdrawn from here.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
