Beautiful Victorian (around 1880) Watcombe terracotta pottery bottle vase/flask. Pretty hand-painted enamel flower (peony) decoration with green enamel spout. Measures 10.5in (26cm) high x ca 6in (15cm) diameter. Numbered on base (5272).
Excellent original condition with unblemished enamel decoration. No chips, cracks or repairs.
The Watcombe Pottery existed for nearly one hundred years during which they produced a wonderful and varied amount of pottery much of it unique, but also in the style and trends of Torquay and of the times. The pottery was located in the grounds of Watcombe House (near Torquay), where the fine red Devon clay was first discovered about 1865. The company closed in 1962.
