Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
It is here that the engraving can be found with a date of 1890, presented to George D. Petty & Good Conduct, Juniors. I have another that I purchased with this presented to George D. Pelly, clearly one of these was mistakenly engraved all those years ago.

There is a tiny shutter over the eye piece for protection.
A wonderful and handsome example in excellent condition, measuring 6 1/8" in length expanding to 17" in length.
