Unusual Georgian Silver Mounted Shell Snuff Box, Circa 1790

Description

This gorgeous and tactile Georgian silver mounted desk shell snuff box dates circa 1790. Of oval form, the decorative carved shell with a reeded silver mount. The hinged cover a lovely snug fit. The underside with a carved narrow pedestal base allowing for the snuff box to sit upright.

Hallmarks:

Unmarked as was very often the case with small objects of vertu, but tests as sterling silver.

Dimensions:

Height: 4cm / 1.6 inches.

Width: 7cm / 2.5 inches.

Depth: 3.5 cm / 1.2 inchES.

Condition:

Very good.
