A fine early 19th Century Old Sheffield Plated game cover bearing the mark of Ashforth & Co of Sheffield (1784). With a large coat of arms on an inlaid silver cartouche bearing the motto ''Manners Maketh Man'' possibly for the Wykeham family, founders of New College Oxford and Winchester College. A beautifully cast removable handle and gadrooned edging. A slightly unsual squared oval shape.
The condition is very good with only minor signs of age related wear and very clean interior and virtually no copper bleed.
