Antique Moroccan Rug, Rehamna, Morocco.

Description

Moroccan rugs are not generally in my purchasing scheme but I couldn't resist this absolutely charming rug with its myriad of stylised birds and animals, made in Rehamna, Morocco in the 1940s/1950s.

I love the pregnant camel in the centre, the stylised peacocks or cockerels scattered throughout the rose-red field, the long-bodied horse with its short legs at the very top and the happy man with his horse right at the bottom.

The pile condition is very good all over albeit with very minor wear, and the handle is soft and floppy, like a blanket.
