19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

An exceptional antique French Coromandel jewellery box inlaid with the most sensational marquetry work including woods such as Holly, Cherry, Harewood together with engraved Mother of Pearl and Ivory flowers.

Another sign of the exceptional quality is the inlay on all four sides as well as the lid, it is rare that a box have such highly intricate work on the sides and back.

The top is a good place to examine the skillful work with inlays actually intertwining each other to create shade and tones to the flowers and foliage. The top two shows the use of the shell and Ivory with bell-shaped Lily of the Valley being made from Nacre and shaded with fine engraving; the flowers nearer the bottom of the lid are made from creamy Ivory; this exquisite combination is used all around the box.

The interior reveals the original cream silk taffeta, wonderful see in it's untouched condition and still in great condition bearing in mind it's 160 years in age.

A splendid special box in excellent condition with a stunning glossy polished patina, complete with working key. 9 1/4" wide 6 1/4" deep x 3 1/4" tall.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
