Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

The top is a good place to examine the skillful work with inlays actually intertwining each other to create shade and tones to the flowers and foliage. The top two shows the use of the shell and Ivory with bell-shaped Lily of the Valley being made from Nacre and shaded with fine engraving; the flowers nearer the bottom of the lid are made from creamy Ivory; this exquisite combination is used all around the box.

The interior reveals the original cream silk taffeta, wonderful see in it's untouched condition and still in great condition bearing in mind it's 160 years in age.
A splendid special box in excellent condition with a stunning glossy polished patina, complete with working key. 9 1/4" wide 6 1/4" deep x 3 1/4" tall.
