Description

19th Century Large Aubusson Tapestry Cartoon Gouache Painting. These painting were used by the weaver as a model and are called 'cartoon de tapisserie'. It is placed by the weaver under the chain of his loom and he then follows the contours of the drawing and fils the colours using bobbins of wool. These cartoons were often thrown away once the tapestry was finished so are rare to find. It is currently framed in a pine frame but would benefit from being re-framed to enhance its beauty.
