Description

Pencil and watercolour on prepared board. Contained in a traditional rectangular black lacquered frame with gilt metal mounts and convex glass. This is a beautifully drawn and painted portrait of an old and sagacious looking countryman. He stands proudly holding his walking stick ‘a clear reference to his age’ although his clothes and hair are ragged he appears content in his natural setting. The portrait is clearly by an accomplished artist, very close and not unlike the work of John Linnell.
Miniature: 90 mm x 74 mm.
Frame: 140 mm x 118 mm.
