A delightful Victorian silver christening mug or tankard with clear hallmarks for Exeter 1878 and makers marks for Josiah Williams & Sons. The tankard is chased and engraved with plant and foliage popular in the Victorian times, such as ferns, honesty, and water plants, and a wavy line above the base suggests the waterside garden. Other decoration comprises beading at the base, and reeding around the top. The cartouche area intended for initials is blank. The inside is gilt sprayed. Elegant and pleasing, with a good early date and sought after assay office.
