Late 19thc Boxed 3 Piece Carving Set C1870

19th century
Description

A fine late 19thC three piece carving set, comprising knife, steel and fork c1870. The handles are made of horn, shaped in a lozenge to fit the hand, with silver plated finials and ferrule embossed with a decorative classical design. The steel is stamped CAST STEEL and the knife blade is forged in old steel and stamped with makers name FRANCIS H HARDY Sheffield. The blade is fine and sharp and the restrainer on the fork fits tightly and works perfectly. The horn handles bear the natural olive and ivory tones of this material, and the steel and knife show interesting variation in those colours. The set is in its original walnut box, with a blank brass shield, and is lined in burgundy ruched and plain silk, with red velvet rests for the tips of the implements. In excellent condition, this set would look stunning in the dining room and make a beautiful gift too.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
