Set of Six Victorian Mahogany Patent Dining Chairs by James Reilly of Manchester Circa 1870

19th century
Description

A set of six Victorian mahogany patent dining chairs by cabinet maker and inventor James Reilly 1825-1889) of Manchester, circa 1870, the yoke shaped backs with bullseye detailing to the splat, the upholstered seats raised on ring turned tapering supports. The front/back rails stamped 'JAMES REILLY MANCHESTER' and with RD kite mark.

The rear legs are joined to the side rails with metal bolts, an improvement in chair manufacture patented by James Reilly in the early 1860’s.

The solid mahogany frames are good and sturdy with no problems. The seats are in good condition, however I can arrange re-covering with my upholsterer if preferred.
