Digby Antiques (Wiltshire) has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Across the top is engraved “ISONOMY”. Isonomy 1877-80 was a British thoroughbred who ran 14 times and won 10.
The owner of the horse was Frederick Gretton, born into the BASS brewing family.

The case was made by Henry William Dee London 1879. It was retailed by J & G Beasley 34 St James Street.
The inside is lined in blue silk on both sides, with a notebook in the centre.
Small silver pencil down one side, no marks but appears to be silver.

The crocodile and silver is in very good order. The blue silk is also in very good order. The notebook is loose and someone has written on some of the pages which I don’t think has anything to do with the notebook?
