Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The lid opens in the centre to reveal the removable original cut crystal butter dish in the ever-popular hobnail cut with cantered corners.

The underside of the stand is fully marked for Elkington; being Elkington, we are able to date accurately with the letter V being for the year 1881.
It is also lucky enough to have a English design registration lozenge mark which allows us to date the original design date of this piece to 4th June 1877.

Such examples are hard to come by, this one remaining in superb condition with very minor wear commensurate with age. The stand spans 7 1/4" handle to handle x 5" foot to foot x 2 3/4" tall.
