This beautiful antique diamond star burst brooch dates from circa 1880 - 1900. The star was a popular design of the era.
A central old cut diamond is surrounded by a cluster of 6 old cut diamonds on the main spokes. The rest of the diamonds are rose cut set in graduating sizes with the smallest near the tip of the spokes. It is difficult to get an accurate diamond weight for set stones of varying sizes & cuts, In total there are 43 diamond and we would estimate the carat weight exceeds 1ct.
The detachable brooch fitting has a secure rollover catch. The fitting can be removed by unscrewing it in the centre, enabling it to be worn as a pendant from the loop at the top.
The piece is unmarked but has been tested & it has a silver front with 9ct gold back, the whole piece has been rhodium plated so it has a bright, shiny finish.
