An excited and frenetic scene in a school room at the end of term as children brake up for the Christmas holidays titled “Breaking-Up“.
Friends and family attend and enjoy refreshments as eight rather serious little girls perform a dance routine accompanied by a manic looking dance-master playing the fiddle.
A group of naughty boys at the back of the class throw quills into the wig of an aged schoolmaster as he goes to greet a visitor.
As with all George Cruikshank’s caricatures, lots going on and full of delightful incident and amusing detail.
This fine old etching is held within a good period reeded hardwood frame with gilt slip. The print is bright and well coloured with a few feint tears, two in the bottom margin, one in the side margin. (Please see detail photos). There is some mild age related toning to the margins. The frame is in first class condition.
