Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers, crafted between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, high-quality timber such as mahogany or walnut, and functional drawer arrangements. Common design features include bracket feet, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and brass swan-neck or batwing drawer pulls.

Primary construction typically utilised solid mahogany or oak for the outer casing, with mahogany veneers applied for figure and grain patterning. Secondary woods such as pine, spruce, or oak were commonly employed for drawer linings and back panels, accompanied by cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display irregular hand-cut dovetails, hand-sawn timber marks on secondary woods, and genuine age-related shrinkage or oxidisation around drawer bottoms. Original brass hardware will often leave distinct shadow outlines or impression marks on the wood surface.

A period mahogany chest functions as a grounding focal piece in neutral or contemporary spaces. Positioned alongside minimalist modern art, understated table lamps, or contemporary textured textiles, the warm wood tone provides historical contrast within modern living rooms or bedrooms.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, movement, or finish fading.
