Antique Vanity-bag, Luri Nomads, Luristan, Western Persia.

1900 - 1920
Description

Woven in soumak technique on the face and plain-weave on the back, this tiny little 'chanteh' or vanity-bag was made by Luri nomads in Luristan, western Persia circa 1900.

Note the symbolic 'crosses' depicted on the ivory background where the top crosses disappear under the border! But note the tiny saffron-yellow cross second from the top left! I wonder if the weaver purposely made this her signature? I leave it to your imagination!

The back is equally attractive with its two horizontal rows of interlocking symbols in slit tapestry technique at the bottom and then simple narrow horizontal bands at the top.

This is a very unusual and rare bag in a tiny format and in original condition.

Size: 23cm x 16cm (9" x 6.25").

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
