Rowland Henry Hill 1873-1952.Landscape and figure painter in oil and watercolour.Born in Halifax and studied at Bradford School of Art and Herkomer School Bushey.Exhibited 21 works at RA from 1897,in the provinces and at the Paris Salon.Lived at Hinderwell near Staithes.Hill was a leading member of the Staithes School of Artists. Runswick Bay is in the Scarborough Borough of North Yorkshire,5 miles north of Whitby and close to the villages of Ellerby and Hinderwell.It is a popular tourist attraction due to its picturesque cliffside village,stunning coastal walks,fossil hunting and Runswick Sands,a white sand beach.It is on the Cleveland Way National Trail.Runswick Bay was chosen as ‘Beach of the Year 2020 ‘by The Sunday Times. ‘Runswick Bay towards Kettleness’ signed watercolour dated 1933;image size...
