19thc Fine American Beadwork Picture

19th century
Description

This beautifully-worked, colourful and evocative BEADWORK PICTURE bears the label of THE PICTURE SHOP, 65 BROMFIELD STREET, BOSTON, a Store in Massachusetts, USA. It dates from the latter half of the 19th Century.

The GILT FRAME appears to be original to the beadwork and this leads to the belief that the BEADWORK PICTURE is also AMERICAN in origin.

It is worked entirely in the smallest of glass beads and seems to depict the typical AMERICAN HOMESTEAD at its centre, surrounded by beautiful ARUM LILIES and coloured FOLIAGE.

The fineness and the colour of the beads gives the picture an overall festive aura and a sparkle.

It is the work of a very accomplished needle-worker.

The whole is in good condition and behind glass.

Express Delivery within Mainland UK is included. We are happy to quote for Overseas Shipping on request.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th century American beadwork refers to decorative textile art produced by stitching tiny glass seed beads onto fabric foundations to form detailed patterns, floral designs, or architectural scenes.

These artworks were constructed using fine glass micro-beads stitched with cotton or silk thread onto sturdy canvas, velvet, or linen backings, frequently framed in gilded wooden mouldings.

Authentic period beadwork exhibits hand-stitched irregularities in the glass beads, natural age patina on the thread, original period backings, and typical Victorian motifs such as calla lilies or rural cottages.

A framed beadwork picture can be layered into a gallery wall, placed on a narrow wall space, or positioned inside a bookshelf alcove to introduce historical texture alongside contemporary decor.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight and humid conditions to prevent thread decay and color fading, and gently clean the gilt frame using a dry, soft brush or microfibre cloth.
