A Unique Antique Pair of Solid Silver Salt Cellars, Pedestal Design - Daniel & John Wellby 1886

19th century
Description

We are delighted to be able to offer this impressive large solid sterling silver cheroot/cigar case made by silversmith George Unite of Birmingham in 1871.

The unusually large and impressive size of the case is most certainly one of the first notable features of this silver piece.

In hand, the case has a sturdy and thick build which gives a reassuring feel in hand, allowing for multiple cigars/cheroots to be held within.

Upon further inspection, the details and intricacies of the decorations on the case are equally charming and impressive in itself.

Both sides of the case feature a highly decorative engraved design of leaves and scrolls with a blank central cartouche.

The lid opens via a push-button mechanism on the side which allows for the contents to be stored safely within.

The proportions of this case will allow for cheroots/cigars/cigarettes to be stored within.

Alternatively, one may wish to come up with creative uses of such wonderful cases to store items that are used in the modern era.

The case is fully hallmarked with clear English hallmarks.

Overall, this case presents itself as a highly desirable and collectable piece of fine Victorian silverware for display or for those who wish to experience an indulging and practical experience upon using such cases.
