Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Recessed brass carry handles to each end and a round brass cartouche with an armorial symbol within, on the lid. There is also a working Bramah lock and key.
The lid opens to reveal the open storage area within. There are decorative brass edges to all the interior surfaces and the brass hinge bears a spring loaded mechanism for keeping the lid open. The storage area inside is entirely lined in navy blue leather, with six further paper storage spaces in the lid.
