Description

An extraordinary all tortoiseshell walking stick or cane, moulded to simulate a bamboo stem. As it is probably a colonial piece, probably India or the Far East, I have dated it c1920 though it could well be earlier. Tortoiseshell could be moulded or carved into a required shape. The condition is remarkably good - just the base shows signs of old wear and there is no brass or metal base tip. The contrast in the shell colouration is gorgeous and it is such an unusual piece, a real collector’s piece.
