Sold by: Alexander George Antiques Ltd.

A fine and rare early eighteenth-century George I walnut and seaweed marquetry parlour chair covered in a late 17th-century tapestry fragment. Circa 1720-1730, England.

The upholstered high back leads down to a bell-shaped seat raised on four well-drawn eared cabriole legs leading down to pad feet. The front legs are carved to the knee with a large shell and pendent and inlaid in a seaweed marquetry fashion to both the top and bottom.

It should be noted that this chair is incredibly well-drawn and of fantastic colour and patination.

Whether you are a collector or a first-time buyer the choice of pieces will inspire. Each has been carefully selected for its exceptional design and provenance, as well as in many instances its academic significance.
