Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian cane rocking chairs are characterised by steam-bent or turned wooden frames featuring hand-woven rattan cane panels on the seat and backrest. Originating in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, these chairs were designed for domestic comfort and nursery use.

Frame construction predominantly used hardwoods such as beech, oak, walnut, or mahogany, held together with mortise and tenon joinery. The back and seat inserts were crafted from woven natural cane splits threaded through perimeter holes drilled into the frame.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate joinery, original wood patination, hand-drilled holes for manual cane weave rather than modern pressed cane grooves, and turned front legs or stretchers typical of nineteenth-century turning techniques.

Position the piece in a reading corner or bedroom alcove paired with a neutral wool throw or linen cushion to soften the natural timber tones while integrating natural texture into modern schemes.

Maintain the flexibility of natural cane by lightly dampening the underside once or twice a year to prevent drying out. Keep the wooden frame away from direct heat sources and apply a microcrystalline wax to protect the timber finish.
