Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.

The large panel is a most appealing subject with the seated young lady holding a corsage up to her dress.
The two smaller scenes are both romantic English rural scenes. The panels are surrounded with gilt foliate decoration as are all sides of the box, which is most unusual and a sign of quality, this work can be seen carried into the interior compartments.

There is a working key which fits into a Mother of Pearl escutcheon to open and lock the box. Once opened a leather writing slope is created with gold embossed decoration. The top half opens for the storage of stationery, letters and the like.

There are two sloped storage compartments for nibs etc., two inkwell compartments, one central lidded storage compartment and a pen tray with storage below.
Quite magnificent in every way, excellent condition. 13" wide x 9 1/2" deep x 4 3/4" tall at rear.
