N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the Regency era.
To the right of the dial is then a superbly cast, gilt bronze figure of a roman soldier in armour with his right hand outstretched holding a pole, and his left hand holding his sheathed sword. The base of the case is then shaped to the bottom and has a further array of gilt ormolu mounts with scrolling leaves and roman helmets. Finally the case has four exquisitely turned gilt bronze feet that set it off beautifully.
The dial is then enamel and set out in black Roman numerals with small dashes to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then has a finely patterned, gilt bronze surround as well as two nicely shaped hands. Finally the dial features a nice, off set winding hole.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is ticking away as it should and comes complete with its original pendulum and winding key. It is a chain fusee example of the upmost quality and is then engraved to the back plate by the maker “ROBINS Charing Cross” showing that the piece was made by a quality maker.
A truly rare time piece that would look fantastic in any home or as part of a larger collection.
