Beautiful 19th century (Regency) papier-mâché hand-held painted lady’s face guard or screen. Painted on wood with scalloped edging with just a few tiny chips at the bottom left corner. Measures 23cm wide x 20cm high.
Missing its handle but remains a superb work of art, far superior to the usual standard of painting found on face screens.
Designed for use by fashionable Regency ladies to provide protection from flushing of the face and complexion or deterioration of elaborate facial make-up when seated close to open fires.
