Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Today they are always a popular acquisition with their handsome appearance, quality solid construction and very usable. I sell many as pistol boxes, for period arms, as well as desk-top boxes for papers, letters etc. (keeps all those papers out of site!)

The box is bound with brass strapping affixed with flush brass screws, a sign of true quality. There is a shield shaped cartouche inlaid to the top complimenting the brass escutcheon which houses the working key.

The box opens 180 degrees and has been professionally re-lined with a hand marbled paper, creating an attractive, sophisticated and clean interior.
Dating to the mid-nineteenth century, it remains in excellent condition with an attractive polished finish. 17 1/2" wide x 10" Deep x 5" tall while closed.
