Description

The rare ivory background on this 'jollar' or wedding camel trapping, contains two large turreted guls - similar to those used by the Salor Turkmen, and a quartered torba gul in the centre.

Surrounding the main guls and at the edges of the field, are six halved chuval guls. They are connected vertically by a totemic device with tertiary 'H' symbols within the ivory field.

This jollar was made by Ersary Turkmen in the middle Amu Darya region of Turkmenistan, quite possibly around the middle of the 19th century and is in near mint condition bar a tiny repair.
