Early Convex Wall Clock - London

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Its About Time

This is a fine example of an early Convex dial wall clock. The mahogany case has a warm colour with the classic layout of one side door and one convex lower door with very little wood showing behind the bezel. The 8 day fusee movement has just had a full overhaul and carries our 24 month guarantee. The dial is exceptional for a clock from this period, the enamel shows good ''crazing'' and gentle wear. The hands are rather special too, with the minute hand having a very elegant counterpoise design. Both hands have been ''Blued'' the traditional way, in-house. The substantial cast bezel is solid brass and the earlier design which neatly houses the convex glass abd held with a latch. This timepiece by John Downes of Long Acre (Covent Garden) London dates circa 1830 ( J.Downes listed working from 1828 ) A rare and early example and perhaps one for the collector!
